Wellness Tips for September

Welcome to September! As the bridge between summer and autumn, September tends to have chaotic transition energy, and September 2025 seems to be following that long-established pattern. We’ve just begun eclipse season, with two happening this month, and it’s best to lean into grounding practices to help prepare for the energy ahead. Here are Five Wellness Tips to help you feel your best all month long:

1. Practice simple grounding anytime (almost) anywhere. The simplest grounding practice is to sit or stand still with a straight spine, close your eyes, and place one of your hands on the top of your head. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, exhale down from your hand. Feel, sense or imagine your breath washing down from your hand deep into the earth. And imagine you growing roots deep into the earth, and feel a sense of relaxation wash over you. Repeat for three breaths total.

2. Eat apples every day. Nature provides a bountiful harvest this time of year, and in Ayurveda we notice that apples help you release the residual summer heat from your body. Releasing the summer heat now may help prevent you from catching colds in the fall/winter. Choose tart apples over sweet for a better effect.

3. Balance with seasonal foods. As the temperature varies day to day, adjust your diet accordingly. Eat cooling foods on warm days, and warming foods on cooler days. Cooling/calming foods include coconut, dates, berries, melon, summer squash, cucumbers, lime, mint, cilantro, fennel, basil, and of course apples. Warming/grounding foods to enjoy are root vegetables, sweet potatoes, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, nuts, seeds, oats, and pumpkin.

4. Take time to recharge. The end of summer can be busy, and the return to routine jarring. So, it’s important to prioritize relaxation. Embrace practices like Yoga Nidra, restorative yoga, and meditation. It’s also, a great time to indulge in a mid-day guided savasana, like this one I recorded for you.

5. Practice gratitude. When you feel overwhelmed with competing priorities, keeping a gratitude journal will keep you focused on the positive parts of your life. Try drifting off to sleep at night while counting your many blessings, or write them down before going to bed.
