I Give Up

I’m having difficulty writing today’s article. I am distracted. I am tired. And writing with authenticity requires a certain amount of vulnerability that I am not feeling up to today. I’m delicate after a busy weekend with very little sleep. I was also out of town with friends, so my yoga and meditation practices fell by the wayside. These practices sustain me in many ways. It was all worth it, as we had lots of fun. But now I feel like I am failing those of you who enjoy my weekly posts.

I guess this is as good a time as any to talk about why it’s okay to give up sometimes. Our society likes to tell us that we should always strive for more. “Never give up!” they say. “You can do anything you set your mind to.” “ You can be anything you want to be.” Well, I’m here to give you permission to give up on all of those ideas. I mean, who are “they” anyway? We should be answering only to ourselves as much as we can. Sometimes giving up is exactly what brings you the freedom you need to see clearly what needs to happen next.

So, here I am practicing what I preach, and giving up on writing this week’s article. And I’m going to take a walk and a nap instead. Thank you for your understanding. Talk to you again soon.
